Talk about cool looking tools. The Bosch DLR130K looks like something out of a sci-fi movie but is something you would really use if it was in your tool box. I know, not many of us have this technology laying around yet, so pay attention and you may be the first one on your block to get one. I’ve got to warn you here, though, your old tape measures are going to be left out in the cold. Oh, and it has lasers.
How it works
If you aren’t familiar with digital measurers yet, the technology is pretty simple. You point the laser at the spot you are measuring to and it does the rest. No more waiting for your partner to show up so he can hold the other end of the tape, listen to him call it out, writing it down and then wondering if he really held the end of the tape where it was supposed to be. Or if you heard right. Remember the carpenter’s advice, “Measure twice, cut once”? Forget that advice. If you have this you won’t need it.
Is it exact?
Not only does it do all this for you, it does it accurately. Accurate as in 1/16 inch over a 130 foot range. Can your tape measure do that? Didn’t think so. What else doesn’t your tape measure do? It doesn’t level, align, measure, and detect, but the DLR130K does. Inches, feet, metric…it doesn’t matter. This is a smart tool.
You can measure area, length, and volume in less time than it took me to write this sentence. We call that speed. And when you throw away that old tape measure, throw away the pen and paper too, because the DLR130K does all the calculations for you. Imagine all the other great things you could do with this new found free-time. There’s a good chance you won’t want to put it down once you start using it, so don’t. Bosch says this is the world’s smallest laser range finder and I believe it. At 4 inches long, you can just stuff it in your pocket and be ready for the next exciting measuring job.
If you are the first one on the block to get one of these, all your tool wielding friends will be begging you to let them borrow it. Don’t. You know you’ll never see it again and you’ll just have to buy another one because you already threw out your old tape measures. Just let them watch you measure your whole house in 7 minutes and they will have to have one of their own. Too bad you’re not on commission.
So get out of the 19th century and try some new technology for a change. New technology doesn’t have to be complicated to be better, but you’ll never know till you give it a try. If you want to compare it against a similar tool made by dewalt, click this link!
